Green Initiative for COP30: Advanced MRV System for Forest Restoration and Carbon Credits in Pará

Approved by CNPq – Call CNPq/SETEC/MCTI No. 020/2024 (RHAE – Researcher in the Company)

CNPq

About the Project

The project is developing a platform to analyze the methodological and economic feasibility of obtaining Carbon Credits from restoration activities in degraded areas. It includes automation of restoration project studies and estimates for the generation of Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) using geospatial and environmental data.

Key project milestones include: completing the full development of the platform by the third quarter of 2025, in time for presentation at COP30; integrating systems such as CAR and SIGEF by the fourth quarter of 2024; and implementing and validating the VCU calculation module by the second quarter of 2025.

The Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system ensures transparency, traceability, and credibility of the generated credits, incorporating international methodologies (VCS, Gold Standard), field audits, and community engagement.

The project is carried out with the technical cooperation of UFRA, which leads research, monitors ecological impacts, interprets geospatial data, and supports scientific dissemination through publications, theses, and books.
